Buccal Segment Settling Appliance

Designed as part of the Clearstep System, the Buccal Segment Settling Appliance is used once clear positioner treatment is complete.

On occasion, the teeth in the back of the mouth do not meet together properly, and there
is a gap between the upper and lower. The Buccal Segment Settling appliance is designed to allow the back teeth to “settle” in to place.

A clear positioner sits on the front teeth, holding them securely in place. This is fused to clear acrylic which runs along the inside of the teeth.

Either the teeth are allowed to settle naturally, or they are assisted with the use of elastics.
For the teeth to settle naturally, the appliance is worn at night and gradually, over time the settle together.

If the patient would wish to speed up this process, it is possible to secure small buttons to the outside of each tooth, and run an elastic in a box form around the buttons. This will encourage the teeth to settle much faster.

The elastics run from the top to the bottom jaw, which results in a reduced opening of the jaws. It is possible to wear the elastics at night only, but worth noting that less time that they are worn, results in a longer timescale to the final result.
