Composite Bite Blocks

Composite Bite Blocks are often required as part of Clearstep treatment. They are worn in
conjunct ion with the clear positioners and on occasion other appliances such as the CODA.

The bite blocks are a layer of tooth coloured composite material placed over the top surface of two of the back molar teeth, in either the upper or lower jaw.

This has the effect of raising the surface of the teeth slightly. When the teeth bite together, the back teeth meet before the front teeth do. Therefore by taking this approach and raising the surface of the back teeth, it interrupts the way the teeth are biting together in the rest of the mouth.

Interrupting the bite this way allows Clearstep to undertake movements that would not otherwise be possible, as the teeth in the opposing jaw would interfere.

Once the teeth have been moved to the correct position, the Clearstep practitioner will remove the bite blocks and the teeth will settle back together.

As the blocks are placed on the back teeth and are tooth coloured, there is nothing visible from the front of the mouth.

Depending on the needs of each individual case, the bite blocks may be worn for a short phase of treatment, or be required for a longer duration. The treating clinician will be able to advise once the diagnosis has been completed.
