ELSAA – Expansion and Labial Segment Alignment Appliance

The ELSAA is a removable appliance for the upper jaw that is worn prior to clear positioner treatment.

It sits in the roof of the mouth, with clasps on the molar and pre-molar teeth. As it sits behind the teeth, there is little to no visibility at the front of the mouth.

The ELSAA is designed to affect a number of orthodontic mechanics in one appliance. The
benefits of this result in reduced treatment timescales in comparison with other alternatives.

The ELSAA is comprised of three components, each of which are designed with a specific
purpose.

T Springs: These little springs of wire sit behind the front teeth and gently push them forward once activated.

Bite Plane: On the underneath of the ELSAA, at the front there is a flat area that the lower teeth bite onto.

This slightly impedes the way that the teeth bite together to assist in the movement expansion of the teeth.

Screw: The ELSAA is split into two halves, which is joined by a small screw in the middle.
When activated, this screw will widen the gap between the two halves.

Once the ELSAA is in the mouth, each half will gently push the teeth outwards.
This is called expansion and will create space in which to align crowded and crooked teeth.

Each appliance is supplied with a small key with which to turn the screw. The key is inserted into the hole and turned in the direction indicated by the arrows.

One quarter turn twice a week. Clearstep recommends that a period of at least two days passes before activating the screw for a second time that week.

Please note it is very important that the screw is activated as advised. If it is not, the appliance will not work and the treatment time may increase, potentially as may costs.
